Korg nanoKONTROL2 Windows 11 Setup and LED Feedback

The nanoKONTROL2 works well with MIDI Command Studio as a compact Windows control surface. Its controls can be mapped to shortcuts, macros, media commands, volume targets, and preset switching. The device supports LED feedback when its LED Mode is set to External, allowing the button lights to reflect the state of mapped actions.

In CC mode, the knobs send straightforward absolute values from 0 to 127 rather than DAW-style encoder messages. This makes them easier to learn and use for MCS mappings. Other modes can work, but their controls are designed for specific DAWs.

1. Use KORG KONTROL EDITOR to set the nanoKONTROL2 to CC mode.
2. In MIDI Command Studio, open the Devices panel, choose Add Device, and select nanoKONTROL2.
3. Enable LED support for the controller.
4. Create a preset and use Learn to assign the buttons, knobs, or faders you want to use.

Useful starting points include app or system mute buttons with matching LEDs, volume faders, media transport controls, application shortcuts, macros, and buttons that switch between MIDI Command Studio presets.

On Windows 11 24H2 or later, Korg advises users to uninstall the legacy Korg USB-MIDI Driver and use Windows MIDI Services. If MIDI Command Studio shows nanoKONTROL2 SLIDER/KNOB, follow Korg's removal instructions, restart Windows, and reconnect the controller. It should then normally appear as nanoKONTROL2.

Korg says to ignore or decline prompts from its editor or updater to install the legacy driver on affected Windows 11 systems.
