MIDI Audio Sample Playback on Windows

Trigger audio samples from your MIDI controller with dedicated playback mappings.

Audio sample playback is available in the full version only.

Only one audio preset can exist at a time.

Audio mappings let you trigger samples, stop playback quickly, and control playback level from your controller. For best control, set up all three: Trigger button, Stop button, and Audio Volume fader.

  1. Add your MIDI device in MIDI Command Studio.
  2. Open Settings > Audio Preset, choose your device, enter a preset name, and click Create Audio Preset.
  3. Learn a trigger button, choose an audio file, then select a play mode (play full sample, play while held, or repeat).
  4. Set gain level if needed.
  5. Learn a separate stop button and enable Use this button as Stop All.
  6. Learn a fader for audio volume (this will control all samples relative to their gain level).
  7. Save and test from your controller.

This workflow is useful for sound effects, stingers, and quick sample playback during recording, live use, or streaming. The audio preset can also be used with preset switching.

Audio Volume Fader (Different from Normal Fader Mapping)

Audio Volume fader mapping does not open extra dialog options when learned. It is added to the mapping list automatically and controls the relative level of all audio samples together.

The audio volume level is saved with the audio preset and restored when that preset is loaded.

Troubleshooting

  • If the button does nothing, confirm the device is connected and the mapping is saved.
  • If audio mappings are missing, confirm you created an audio preset from Settings > Audio Preset.
  • If playback level is too low or too high, adjust sample gain and/or add an audio volume mapping.
  • If behavior is not as expected, verify the selected play mode for that trigger mapping.
